Pennies for a Picture

Pennies for a Picture

Do you have great photos, have seen an incredible image in a magazine, or have a special newspaper article that you’d like to turn into a work of art, to display in your home, but custom framing and canvas prints are just too expensive?

Why not decoupage them onto canvas for literally pennies a print?!

Party Pancakes

Party Pancakes

A family favorite in our home is German Pancakes. Quite simply, they are crepes, but the batter is mixed just slightly thicker than traditional crepe batter. This particular variation on the recipe is a fun way to brighten a grey morning or surprise your birthday boy or girl with a warm, festive breakfast.

Never Stop Learning

August 27, 2013

We recently allowed our kids to start playing educational computer games on the PBS Kids website. We did not have cable television for at least seven years, let alone video games and access to the computer was strictly reserved for carefully supervised Netflix entertainment. Needless to say, this new commodity has quickly become a treasured pastime. Continue Reading

Nanu Nanu

July 12, 2013

Kaydenc – “Mommy, can I go upstairs and watch TV in your room?”

Me – “The TV is on downstairs.”

Kaydenc – “Yeah, but the ‘kids’ won’t let me watch the Travel Channel.”

Me – *stunned silence*

*From the living room*

Finnley – “Hey look, I’m sitting on my face like Bork!”

Kaydenc – *sighs* “LIKE MORK!”, “My brain needs a break, I’m going to go watch the caterpillars in my room.”

I think this rainy Friday needs to be a silly, creative, play day! It’s time to channel our family FUN!

I was carrying a cooler and a few other items to the house when Finnley ran to my aid.

Finnley – “Mom, I can carry that for you… I’m as strong as an ox!”

Me – “Thanks buddy, so an Ox is pretty strong?”

Finnley – “Yeah, I’ve heard people say that.”

*as I hand him what I’m sure he can carry*
Me – “Are you sure everything people say is true?”

Finnley *thinks for a second* “Well, no… but I can’t think of any reason someone would lie about an ox.”

Haha. Oh, how I love this kid’s logic.

Davi – “Mommy! It’s my lucky day! I found a lucky penny.”
*reveals a shiny nickel*

Me – “That’s a nickel, buddy. That’s like five pennies.”

*examining it closely*
Davi – “How did they all get in there?! WOW! It IS my lucky day. I found the biggest penny EVER in the world.”

Hahaaa… can I just keep this one little forever?

Bee Business

April 17, 2013

“The innocence of children is what makes them stand out as a shining example to the rest of Mankind.”

Kurt Chambers

Bee BusinessFinnley walked around with what I thought was an invisible pet named Pincher for over an hour. After closer examination, I realized Pincher was a bee he was proud to have saved from a puddle.

He excitedly told me about how he had discovered the Carpenter Drone flailing around helplessly on the driveway. He looked for a stick to fish him from the murky water before he succumbed to a certain muddy demise. Continue Reading

It Is Time

March 27, 2013

In my experience, one of the most rewarding and magical things about parenting is the lessons I learn and the perspective I gain through a child’s eyes as we grow together.

The greatest challenge for me, as a parent, is instilling values and shaping beings that will one day positively contribute to society as it evolves… with those lessons in mind and their innocence maintained. Not to close a mind but to open a door to the future.

My children remind me daily that I haven’t seen life from every angle yet, and I should never give up on trying to ‘think’ it differently. Never stop trying to BE the difference. Make the change! Continue Reading
